The blog is something I have toyed with an had tons of success with. My readers know I am not the best writer east of the Mississippi, but sometimes I get luck. With this writing blog, I did. In my journals, as part of my Artist’s Way writing group, I often put coy titles in which have something to do with my favorite poet, William Blake. There is “Blake on the Page,” “Blake and the Monster Under the Stairs,” and other classic titles like “Blake Comes to the Page Late.” It’s my way of starting the working day. And that is what this piece is about. So you want to be a writer, right? Working is paramount. It sounds obvious … but it definitely isn’t always part of the game.

I hate writing some days …

That is something I wrote of in my first Writers Write; it tends to be the name of the game, the reasons for blockage, and when the water runs dry, you decide to take just a little break which turns into months, possibly years, and then time has passed and the ideas, which you thought used up, just start bugging you. It’s always better to just write, of course, but each journey we take as working writers will have some dry rivers—where the ideas are slow coming and you just don’t want to work.

And I am not saying go mad working 60-70 hours a week. I tried that. It’s profitable. But your fingers start aching about the same time your mind seeks something. Your next week might be 40 hours of nothing but junk. It’s important to pace yourself as a working writer.

Is another point I have made in my creative journaling. It seems that you will be building these worlds. A fantasy novelists goe for chaos and light, or perhaps the grays and the blacks. A literary writer points out, this character is unshaven, walking on thin ice, and worst of all, he just doesn’t get life. It sounds complicated.
